Magnesium Lab

Materials Needed:
1. Crucible
2. Safety glasses
3. Bunsen burner
4. Distilled water
5. Tongs
6. Crucible Holder
7. Magnesium strips
8. Batteries
9. Cables for testing

Procedure:
1. Put your safety glasses on your face
2. Mass the crucible
3. Take two of the strips of magnesium and twist into a ball
4. Turn on the Bunsen burner
5. Place the crucible with lid and magnesium inside the crucible on the triangle about seven centimeters above the flame.
6. Wait for the magnesium to be heated/ on fire, (do not look directly into the crucible)
7. Mass crucible after it cools down
8. Put distilled water in the crucible and stir
9. Connect the batteries and cables to see if the water conducts the electricity

Analyze and Conclude
1. The magnesium weighted .1 an did not gain or lose any.
2. Exothermic reaction, because the mass should of increased.
3. Chemical reaction, because of the air.
4. Nitrate & nitrate
5. Oxygen & Magnesium
6. It did conduct electricity.

1. Magnesium ions help the nervous system
2. Magnesium is used in antacids
